Bernie Sanders has been a civil rights activist since the last 1950’s and has been in mainstream politics since 1981 when he became the mayor of Burlington, the biggest city in Virginia (U.S.A.).
He later became a member of the United States Congress via the U.S. House of Representatives and is now a U.S. Senator poised for possibly the biggest upset in U.S. political history:
The defeat of Hillary Clinton for President. However…
…Hillary Clinton, her political surrogates (who are vying for a job in her administration by trying to stay on the good end of her political ‘Hit List’), and the corporate media that funds her…excuse me…’who’ funds her (seeing as the Supreme Court of the United States has deemed corporations ‘humans’) are doing everything in their legal and immoral power to stop him…and we do mean everything.
Hmmm, we wonder why? Maybe this explains it:
From his record to fear by association, check out these four (4) things that her and her establishment “friends” have been doing in an attempt to smear Bernie Sanders at virtually every turn and the two (2) reasons why:
1.) Skew His Record
One of the funniest things Bernie Sanders’ well-funded opponent and his job-angling detractors are trying to do is smear him using his record. Unfortunately for them, his record is virtually flawless on all of the key issues;Civil/Human Rights, Women’s Issues, Income and Wealth Inequality, andForeign Policy,so that didn’t stick.
2.) Use “Socialism” to Demonize Democratic Socialism
They then try to smear him using “Socialism” as dirt and throwing it onto him, but it didn’t stick because America is already a quazi-socialist country (military, museums, national parks, police, fire fighters, teachers, etc.) and Bernie explained that he is a “Democratic Socialist,” which is very different than Socialism alone.
3.) Guns
Since he’s not beholden to any corporation or the establishment, his Democratic opponent, who is getting hammered constantly for the hundreds of millions her and her husband, former U.S. President Bill Clinton, have received from corporations for speaking engagements since 2000, tried to say that he was soft on guns.
She used agun safety billwhich Senator Sanders voted for to try and tie him to the NRA; a controversial group which is the firewall between the citizens and the manufacturers of the weapons the citizens use, some of which to kill people in cold blood. However…
…this tactic didn’t stick either because:
A.) The bill they tried to use was voted for by Bernie Sanders because people were trying to hold store owners (who’d done a 100% legal gun sale) accountable for the deaths of people from the use of the gun that was legally sold at their store.
Senator Bernie Sanders disagrees with that being Ok, and we agree with him.
B.) Bernie Sanders has a D- rating from the NRA. How can the NRA be for you, but also hate you?
They can’t, which means that he’s for stronger gun safety laws, and we are as well.
4.) Fear By Association
When none of that stuck, they AMENDED their strategy to preying on the ‘English language ignorance’ of American citizens.
They started negatively tying Bernie Sanders to communists, Marxists, and fascists on all of their networks (Remember: 90% of the so-called news networks are now only owned by only 6 companies), with all of the establishment surrogates, and in all of the debates and town halls, all in hopes that voters won’t know the difference between communist, Marxist, fascist, and Democratic Socialist.
They know that it won’t “fully” work, but it might scare voters “enough” for Sanders to lose enough votes for their candidate to win.
This is what the right-wing attempted to do to now President Obama back in 2007-2008 with the Pastor Jeremiah Wright ‘controversy.’
Why Are They Spewing These Falsehoods?
If you’ve been paying any attention to the political and economic systems from this past 35 years, you will understand that this is all happening for two specific reasons:
Money and control.
Money
Half of the smearing is because of the money the rich, corporate donors are making through unfair and excessive wealth extraction from the middle-class, which Bernie Sanders is trying vigorously to stop.
In the revolutionary movie The Matrix, humans were harvested like crops and used as batteries to fuel machines.
So the humans found a champion who they felt was “The One” and sent him to save the human race from those machines (Some argue, and a strong argument it is, that Agent Smith is ‘The One,’ but I’m fanboying right now).
Ironically, in the post-President Carter real world, humans are now used as cash spigots for the massive corporate capitalism machine.
The people have chosen their causes’ champion to save the true American way, and it is Bernie Sanders.
He’s “The One.”
Unfortunately, the massive corporate capitalism machine is attacking him vigorously because it does not want to lose the cash spigots…the American people.
Control
The other half of the smearing is because of the control that can be seized from the working-class masses through propaganda and fear, which Bernie Sanders is also trying vigorously to stop.
How many times have you heard, “I saw it on the news“? And why did the person say that? It’s because we’ve been conditioned to believe the word “news” as fact, hence why Fox’s propaganda arm named their channel “Fox “News.”
It gives you a false sense of security that what you’re seeing or hearing on that channel is the truth. Why? Because you “…saw it on the news.“
If the massive corporate capitalism machine can control what you repeatedly see and hear, then they can get you to defend their talking points even if those talking points are propping up policies that actually hurt you and feed their obscene profits.
As Tim Carthon always says: “Repetition breeds remembrance.”
Unfortunately, Bernie Sanders’ Democratic colleague and opponent Hillary Clinton is the machine’s “The One,” and, in this world, the Clinton Machine is The Source.
We wonder: Does Bernie Sanders think on a daily basis, “With friends like Dems, who needs machines?“
In the movie A Few Good Men, the legendary actor Jack Nicholson’s character was named Colonel Nathan R. Jessup. He was the Commanding Officer of the United States Marine Ground Forces at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Station in Cuba.
While on the stand during a trial of two marines who had followed orders (that were given to them from him through the chain of command) and inadvertently killed a fellow marine, he defiantly said:
“I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it.“
He had neither the time nor the inclination, but he definitely was forced to make the time to explain it. He was a military Commander in a country where the Constitution is King, not the military leaders nor an actual King, and the U.S. Constitution is all about “We the People,” not ‘We the Military.’
That’s why those three words, “We the People“, are the very first words of the U.S. Constitution.
Now the person who was questioning Colonel Jessup was looking at the chain-reaction of events of how they got to those freedoms.
Why?
Simply because the why matters as much, if not more, than the end, and to make a point that the ends didn’t justify the means. However…
…when it comes to race relations in this day and age, the why matters just as much, but this ain’t a movie.
This brings me to the clueless (but increasingly normal) privileged person and journalist, Wendy Bell. Check out what she said:
“You needn’t be a criminal profiler to draw a mental sketch of the killers who broke so many hearts two weeks ago Wednesday… they are young black men, likely in their teens or early 20s…They have multiple siblings from multiple fathers and their mothers work multiple jobs…“
She then wrote about a young African-American man, this one a worker she saw in a SouthSide Works restaurant. She said she called over the manager and praised the man, saying:
“I wonder how long it had been since someone told him he was special?“
Really? No, really?
See, THIS is what we’re talking about when we talk about privileged people being mostly clueless, which brings me back to my point about the A Few Good Men movie.
People of ‘your color’ spent centuries pillaging, raping, killing, and oppressing multiple cultures on multiple continents.
You stole an indigenous people from one continent, took them to another continent, killed the indigenous people on that continent, too, then set up the educational, criminal justice, economic, and employment systems to benefit you and literally enslave the indigenous people from the first continent for 400+ years, then condescendingly say crap like, “They have multiple siblings from multiple fathers and their mothers work multiple jobs…” with absolutely no historical context?
Seriously?
It must be nice to ignore the ridiculously-crippling chain-reaction of negative events within an entire race of people that your race caused, all while currently and previously benefiting from virtually-free labor and the multi-trillion-dollar benefits that said free labor bore your ancestors and the societal totem pole ‘high horse’ status on which you are currently sitting because of it, huh “Mrs. O’Toole”?
In a phone interview with the Associated Press, Bell attempted to defend her racially-ignorant comments, stating that the story was not about her, but about “African-Americans being killed by other African-Americans.”
Reeeeeeeeeally now?
Well, I just KNOW then that you’ve done a story about European-Americans being killed by other European-Americans, right?
No, no, I KNOW you did, because 83% of you all are killed by you all, so I KNOW you did a story about that, right?
Oh, I got it!
Maybe you were too focused on the story you did about how more Americans have been killed by European-American male “Christian” domestic terrorists than “Muslim” terrorists since 9-11, right? You DEFINITELY did that story, right?
No? You didn’t do those stories? Oh, my apologies. I thought you were a journalist…you know…objectivity and all?
Bell continued:
“It makes me sick. What matters is what’s going on in America, and it is the death of black people in this country…I live next to three war-torn communities in the city of Pittsburgh, that I love dearly. My stories, they struck a nerve. They touched people, but it’s not enough. More needs to be done. The problem needs to be addressed.”
The problem needs to be addressed? Really? That’s interesting, seeing as though the problem is the system, yet all of your words were speaking about the side-effects of that system, not the system itself.
So you were actually attacking the people who are suffering in large part due to the problem, yet offering no actual solutions to addressing the problem.
Hmmmm, why do you think that is?
Might it have something to do with you living in a blind, automated-societal-acceptance bubble?
Might it have something to do with you living in a top 5% income earner economic bubble?
Maybe it has something to do with the parent company of the very news ‘program’ for which you worked being one of the culprits of spreading the non-nuanced propaganda that you programmingly-spewed on your now deleted Facebook® page using individuals like you who live in the unearned blind utopia of the privileged?
Or maybe because you work with a black person, who probably makes close to the money that you make, you think, “Why can’t all black people be like him?“
Naaaaaaaaaaaah. #Sarcasm.
Race-relations in America are currently strained more than at any time I’ve seen in my lifetime, and it’s for several different reasons, some of which are the ignorant, hateful offspring of another:
Because one side of the isle is talking and the other side isn’t listening.
Because one side of the isle is taking a beating societally from the other side while the other side is standing there asking ‘Why are they bleeding all over the place?’
Because one side’s rich and political classes have used race, theSouthern Strategy in-particular, to fuel their economic and political agendas.
Because one side seems to not have any clue of the privileges with which they were born and benefit invisibly daily.
Which brings us back to Bell.
Obviously confused on why she was fired, Bell felt that she didn’t get a “fair shake”. NEWSFLASH WENDY: You have freedom of speech, but you’re not free from the potential consequences of your words; words like:
“They are young black men…These boys have been in the system before. They’ve grown up there. They know the police. They’ve been arrested. They’ve made the circuit and nothing scares them anymore…“
If that’s even true, did you even for once stop and think about why that is in large part?
Well, why don’t I let one of the people who work for the system and understands what you seem not to about high incarceration rates of these “young black men” and the chain-reaction of negative systemic events.
SUGGESTION: You might want to start at the 1:35 mark:
If you understood your privilege, then those statements you made would have been placed in the correct historical context, like what was done in the above video by former Baltimore Police Officer Michael Wood, and not used as a snide verbal slight to those who do not possess the same privilege with which you were born, so they don’t have the inherent blanket protections that were and still are provided to you.
Everyone is responsible for their actions, including their words…your words…but we don’t control the outcomes of those actions, as you didn’t control the outcome and backlash of yours.
African-Americans especially don’t control outcomes in a system that was literally created for us to fail. Oh, we can anticipate what might be the outcome, but we don’t control whether or not those outcomes come to fruition, only the effort we make in trying to get them to.
Unfortunately, when you have calculated and inherent systemic educational, criminal justice, economic, and employment roadblocks built specifically to keep certain segments of the population from reaching said outcomes, it makes the task much more difficult and increasingly improbable for said segments, wouldn’t you agree?
African-Americans know this all too well. Unfortunately, the privileged masses don’t seem to possess that same obvious knowledge.
There’s that pesky blind utopia of the privileged thing again.
It’s very easy to speak negatively about and talk down to the people who you seem to see as scavenging for the crumbs that you drop into the societal cages into which your system has forcefully placed them, and then turn around and say ‘Look at those scavengers. Just sad.” However…
…it’s much harder to look into the vanity mirror in your bedroom within your penthouse loft and honestly ask, “How did they get to that point?“, isn’t it?
Don’t bother trying to answer now. Your previous words already answered this question.
If an award-winning journalist who was with WTAE-TV for 18 years and had access to all of the educational resources that one could possibly find at her disposal doesn’t understand her privilege, then what hope is there for the current massively-race-relations-ignorant masses to get it?
